Community Helpers Unit Activities for Pre-K and Kinder: Why Is Teaching Children About Community Helpers Important?

Now that the pandemic threat has lessened, we can take our children out more and meet new people. As a parent, it is essential to discuss with our children the various kinds of people they may encounter while we travel or go out. As a result, I started talking to my son about community helpers and what they do that benefits us.

I used the flashcards from Community Helpers Unit Activities for Pre-K and Kinder with Editable Visual Aids printable to introduce various community helpers.

To know more about this printable check out the PREVIEW here

It is common for children to be wary of strangers, especially if they have been quarantined at home for an extended period. That is something I noticed with my son. So I feel compelled to tell him that not all strangers are terrible and that there are people who are assisting us in making our lives better, easier, and safer.  Among these are community helpers in uniform, such as police, soldiers, garbage collectors, teachers, doctors, and others.

Providing our children with knowledge about community helpers can also assist them to understand what they need to do or who to call in an emergency situation. It will provide students/children with the tools they need to be prepared in particular cases, such as a house fire or a medical emergency.

Introducing community helpers will also provide children with information about possible future careers. It will broaden their understanding of the professions available to them when they grow up.

When you're ready to introduce community helpers to your children or students, you need this printable we use in our homeschool.

This Community Helpers Unit Activities for Pre-K and Kinder with Editable Visual Aids
(also available in blackline click here) contains all you need to teach your students about community helpers, their roles, and their tools!

Along with enjoyable, easy-to-prepare activities that will improve literacy, fine motor skills, and math skills. Several activities discuss what each community helper does, which will help children retain the information.

Additionally, this packet includes PowerPoint presentations of the Community Helpers Flashcards and The Community Workers and Their Tools that are " editable text " so that you can use them as visual aids or update the text to use different words.

This Community Helpers Unit Activities for Pre-K and Kinder printable will not only provide general knowledge about community helpers but will also aid in vocabulary development. It has a total of 122 pages of materials and activities.

To end this fun activity I also added a worksheet where children can write or draw who they want to be when they grow up. It is an excellent addition to your career day activity in school.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Thanks for being here!

Free Printable: Ocean Animals 2022 Calendar

It's the last week of January but if you still haven't gotten around to getting your 2022 calendar then you might want to download this Free Printable: Ocean Animals 2022 Calendar.

Jarvis is into ocean animals lately, particularly sharks, dolphins, and whales. He asked me one day if I could make a calendar for him (just like the one he sees in my home office) but he wants some ocean animals on his. So I created an Ocean Animal Themed 2022 Calendar for him which we now use as part of our homeschool.

Every day he would use our donut silicone stamp to mark the day and he would tell me the exact date including what day of the week we are in. Saying the date is part of our kindergarten homeschool routine. Initially, I want those wooden calendars that I see all over Instagram but it's just not on my budget right now. I know, story of my life. So we are DYIng instead which works perfectly fine for us.

So if you want this Free Printable: Ocean Animals 2022 Calendar you can get yours here.

There will be a lot of free printables coming your way this year so please don't forget to follow me on my social media, Shop Instagram, Personal Instagram,  Facebook and my Online Shop to be updated especially if you have a preschooler or a kindergarten.

And if you want more ocean animals-themed activities for preschool or kindergarten you may check out my other printables.  Buy them directly from my shop click here

How Tracing Helped my Child to Write + Free Tracing Numbers and Counting Cards Printable

Writing is one of the much-awaited milestones for preschoolers. I was expecting my son to write a little later because he's been so busy honing his gross motor skills and spent so little time to work on his fine motor skills.

If you follow the Montessori method, you'll know how important strengthening the fine motor muscles to aid the child in his writing skills in the future. But just like any other family who practice the Montessori method, I just followed my child and wait for him to be ready.

Recently, he's been on a writing spree. He'd done a lot of painting, doodling, and coloring. So I thought of re-introducing him to tracing activities by giving him these worksheets that I created and to my surprise, he liked them. He worked on them for one whole week. I'm not gonna lie, we used a lot of scratch papers but I think it's worth it. Just so you know, we always print our worksheets on scratch papers.

After a week, my son and I played "pretend school" where he pretends that he's going to school then I'm his teacher. This game is his idea by the way. I normally use this opportunity to sing with him, practice our greetings, and just do things that he likes to do related to school.

On that particular day, he chose to write on his small whiteboard. He started by attempting to write the letter i then the letter j which he said /J/ for Jarvis, his name. Then he went to town from there and actually finished writing the letters of the alphabet and attempted to write some numbers as well.

Sometimes he would ask me to show him how to write certain letters and he would erase my work and write the letter on his own. It was so fun to watch him do things on his own without the pressure from the adult or conforming to what others are doing and just enjoying learning at his own pace. I'm so happy I get to homeschool with him.

I'm certain that a week's of doing tracing activities helped him remember the strokes he needs to write a certain figure or letter. It also helps him to hold the crayon properly. He prefers to use crayons for writing and I am okay with that for now. He will use a pencil for sure when he's ready.

I am well aware that tracing is not the only activity that could help a child to write. I don't even expect that it will speed up the process of my son's writing. I merely offered the tracing worksheets as an additional activity since he likes to write and doodle anyway but I'm glad I offered it.

For Jarvis' tracing activities we use my Ultimate Tracing Worksheets which you can download from my shop HERE.

If you want, you can also add some more tracing worksheets with your child's name on them just leave me a DM on Instagram. See details here.

Now, my son also loves counting so I created these Tracing Numbers and Counting Cards Printable for him which I am sharing with you for free. Enjoy! Thank you for being here!

Christmas Inspired Activities for Preschoolers

Get this activity here

Are you geared up for the Holiday season? How early did you put up your Christmas tree? If you ask me, we put up ours at the end of October. My husband set-up the tree while Jarvis and I decorated it. It was a fun activity!

As soon as our tree is up, we instantly get into the Christmas spirit around the house. Jarvis and I started reading some Christmas books. Later on, we did other Christmas inspired activities for preschoolers. Here are some of them.

Retelling the Christmas story using the Safari Nativity Toob and our favorite Christmas book.

We started this tradition last year when we got our first nativity set. Jarvis truly enjoyed this and was so excited when he saw that I put out our Nativity set this year. He's also more interested and excited in celebrating Christmas now compared to last year.

Matching uppercase and lowercase letters using one of the activities from Christmas Themed Preschool Activities – Four Activities

I initially presented this in a tray with only 6 matching letters but as soon as Jarvis got into the groove, he started asking for more. So he ended up matching all the letters from the alphabet in one session. We are bound to try the other activities on this printable set in the coming weeks. If you are interested to see more Christmas inspired activities for preschoolers you can follow us on Instagram.

Meanwhile, you can check out the following printables if you are looking for some fun activities for your homeschool or classroom this Christmas season.
